Numerical Modelling of a Dam-Regulated River Network for Balancing Water Supply and Ecological Flow Downstream

چکیده

Dam operation is regarded as an effective way to increase water, food, and energy security for society. However, with the increasing water demand frequent extreme droughts, numerous rivers worldwide go through periods of scarcity ecosystem deterioration varying degrees. Balancing supply ecological flow dam-regulated river network essential in context restoration. In this study, we proposed a hydrodynamic quality model balancing using Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code (EFDC). A section Jinjiang watershed located southwestern China was chosen study area. Firstly, calibrated validated. By comparing simulated values measured values, statistical analysis results showed that relative root mean-squared error (RRMSE) level, COD NH3-N were 5.5–8.1%, 23.6% 28.4%, respectively, indicating adequate degree agreement between simulation observation. Based on established model, dam schemes under dry hydrologic scenario emergency contamination formulated ensure requirement simultaneously. For scenario, could be satisfied operation. regional requirements cannot met The only plays role controlling scope pollution. This expected provide scientific support management downstream protection.

Spatial and Temporal Variability of Water Quality for Karun River, in Upstream and Downstream Gotvand Dam

In this study, the spatial and temporal variability of water quality including monthly series of TDS, EC, So4, Cl, Ca and Na in common statistical period 1993-2014 was evaluated for the Karun River. This assessment is based on qualitative data stations including Susan in the upstream of Gotvand reservoir, Gotvand, Mollasani and Ahvaz in the downstream. To determine the parameters trend process,...

A modelling methodology for natural dam-river network systems

An approach for modelling a natural dam-river network system is proposed in this paper. Generally, the relationships among the variables of a natural dam-river network system are complex and difficult to be described. In this paper, we present some simple first principle relationships among the water levels measured at a limited number of points of the network system such that a model is achiev...

Long-Term Downstream Effects of a Dam on a Lowland River Flow Regime: Case Study of the Upper Narew

Most European riverine ecosystems suffer from the negative influence of impoundments on flow regime. Downstream effects of dams lead to a number of environmental and socioeconomic risks and, therefore, should be thoroughly examined in specific contexts. Our study aims to quantify the downstream effects of the Siemianówka Reservoir (Upper Narew, Poland), using statistical analysis of key element...

Monitoring of Zn and Cr in Downstream Water from Uzunçayır Dam in Turkey

In this study, the concentrations of Zn and Cr in downstream waters from Uzunçayır Dam (Tunceli, Turkey) were monitored during spring (March, April, May) and summer (June, July, August) season. Zinc and Cr concentrations in surface water samples were detected using the ICP-MS device. According to the data obtained the lowest Zn and Cr concentrations in the spring season were 65.43±3.2 μg/L in M...
